Summary

Bandit Queen (1994, Hindi) has not been rated yet, is rated 18+ by Filmi (CBFC: A), and streams on Philo in the US.

Born a lower-caste girl in rural India's patriarchal society, "married" at 11, repeatedly raped and brutalized, Phoolan Devi finds freedom only as an avenging warrior, the eponymous Bandit Queen. Devi becomes a kind a bloody Robin Hood; this extraordinary biographical film offers both a vivid portrait of a driven woman and a savage critique of the society that made her.

Nothing to read yet — reviews land here as they’re published.

Why there’s no score yet. A Filmi Score is the mean of our 0–100 readings and we don’t show one built on fewer than three. This film has 0 reviews on file — each row above shows the critic’s own rating where one exists. The score appears the Friday after enough reviews land.
